Do you have a favorite type of pizza? Maybe you like pepperoni or veggies on your pizza. There are so many choices when it comes to ordering pizzas these days. We love a good pizza night and lately have been making our own at home and using all different types of toppings. We are getting good at making our own pizza dough too. The kids love rolling the dough out and getting flour all over the place!
My kid’s favorite pizza these days is a bacon pizza. They love bacon! They love it for breakfast and any time, day or night. So why not put it on your pizza?! Whenever we would order pizza from our local pizza shop they always request bacon on theirs. I thought we should try to create our own version of this pizza at home. Emma got in the kitchen with me and we made our own. We added an Apple & Gouda Chicken Sausage to it because they also love sausage. According to the kids, this was one of their absolute all time favorite pizzas so far. Emma was so impressed that we made it at home too! We stuffed the crust with mozzarella cheese and added our toppings; it was so delicious. This is definitely a recipe that we will make again and may try to make it as a deep dish pizza next time.
Apple & Gouda Chicken Sausage, Bacon & Cheese Stuffed Pizza
Makes 12" Pizza, 8 Slices
Ingredients
2 Links (larger ones), Apple & Gouda Chicken Sausage, sliced
5-6 slices, Bacon, cooked & rough chopped
1/2 Cup, Pizza Sauce
1 Cup, Mozzarella Cheese, grated
1/4 Cup, Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese, grated
1/2 Teaspoon, Garlic Powder
1/2 Teaspoon, Italian Seasonings
6, Mozzarella Sticks, cut in 1/2
Olive Oil, to brush crust
Pizza Dough
Instructions
Heat oven to 400 degrees.
Roll out pizza dough on floured surface until just bigger than a 12″ pie. Leave some overhang to stuff your crust. Place on a pizza dish. Place the mozzarella sticks around entire edge of crust. Start pulling edges of pizza crust over the mozzarella cheese and press dough to seal the cheese in. Brush edges of crust with oil.
Add sauce to dough and spread around with the back of a spoon. If you like a lot of sauce you can add more, if you don’t you can add less.
Layer with the sausage and bacon. Sprinkle with seasonings and cheeses. Sprinkle the top of the pizza with any leftover bacon pieces. Bake in oven until cheese is nice and bubbly and crust is a nice golden brown. Remove from oven, slice and serve.
Mangia! Enjoy!
Tips
I used a fully cooked sausage. You can also subsitute with your favorite kind of sausage.
Don’t roll your dough out too thin otherwise it will not hold the cheese in the crust; make sure you seal the crust well around the cheese.
I like to brush my crust with the olive oil before putting sauce/toppings onto the pizza. That way you don’t get sauce onto your crust!
I cooked on my pizza pan; you can also cook in a cast iron skillet to make a deep dish pizza pie.
I cut the bacon into bigger bite size pieces instead of crumbling it. I left a little for the top sprinking the leftover bacon on top of the cheese!
