Dinner

Scalloped Potatoes

Scalloped Potatoes

Approx. 6 Servings

Ingredients

6 Medium to Large, White or Yellow Potatoes

3 Tablespoons, Butter, unsalted

1 Cup, Cream or Milk

S&P

1/3 Cup, Parmesan Cheese, grated

Instructions

Scalloped Potatoes-Ready for Oven!Preheat oven to 375 Degrees.  Spray a baking dish, set aside.

Slice all the potatoes.  I like to slice them somewhat thin.  Stack them in your dish so they are standing up.  Pack them into the dish tightly.

Whisk together the cream or milk with some S&P.  Pour the cream over the potatoes.  Then season the top of the potatoes with a little more Salt and Pepper. I use Kosher Salt.

You want the cream to come up a little more than 1/4 of the way up the potatoes.  Depending on how big your dish is, you may need to add a little more cream.  Cut the butter into small pieces and place over the top of the potatoes.

Bake in the oven until nice and golden brown on top. approx. 1 hour (depending on how many potatoes you are cooking and how packed they are in your dish).   About 5-10 minutes before the potatoes are done cooking, sprinkle the Parmesan cheese all over the top.  Return to the oven and finish cooking.  The cheese will start to melt and will also get a nice crispiness to it.   The top of the potatoes will get nice and crispy but the rest of the potato will be soft.

Remove from oven and serve.

Mangia! Enjoy!

Notes

For the potatoes, I like to use a white or yellow potato for this dish.  They are subtly sweet, have a richer flavor to them and they are a more buttery potato.  So they are perfect for this type of dish.  This type of potato is great for roasting and even grilling or mashing.  You can certainly use any of your favorite potatoes.   Read the label on the bag; it should indicate the type of potato as well as the flavor.

You can add other seasonings to your potatoes if you like.  You an add some garlic powder, garlic salt or even fresh garlic.  If you want more of a Potato Gratin you can add some shredded cheese and mix that in with your potatoes; mix in and bake with the potatoes.

If you like a more savory dish, you could even add some fresh rosemary or thyme.  Add any of your favorite flavors.  These potatoes go so great with any meat dish, like meatloaf or chicken.
