Homemade Tortilla Wraps
Ingredients
3 Cups, All-Purpose Flour
1 Teaspoon, Baking Powder
1 Teaspoon, Salt
1/3 Cup, Vegetable Oil or Shortening
1 Cup, Warm Water
Instructions
In a standing mixer, attach your dough hook. Add the flour, salt, baking powder and mix well. Add the oil and water, mix on low speed and then increase the speed on the mixer as the ingredients start to combine. Mix until your dough is smooth, about 1-2 minutes.
Place the dough onto a floured surface. Cut the dough into smaller balls, approx. 16 of them. I think I got about 17 total. You can start by cutting the dough in 1/2 and then in 1/2 again and continue doing this until you have all your balls of dough.
Start to flatten out each ball of dough with your hands, then place onto a tray or dish with wax paper or a clean towel. Let dough sit for about 10-15 minutes.
Next, start to roll out each dough with your rolling pin. You want them to be thin circles. It is OK if they are not perfect circles.
On the stove, heat your pan over Medium heat. Cook each tortilla wrap for about a minute on each side, just until it starts to brown up slightly. You do not need any spray or oil to cook these. They will not stick to the pan. I wiped any excess flour out of my pan in between cooking each tortilla.
Remove tortillas from pan and set aside. You can warm them up again in the microwave, covering them with a damp paper towel. Be sure to cover them after removing from microwave to keep warm/soft.
Mangia! Enjoy!
Tips
You can store the extra tortillas in the fridge or freezer. Be sure to put them into an air tight container or in a freezer bag.
You can also make these gluten free by using a gluten free flour (try to look for a GF flour that is 1-1 ratio). Or if you want a Whole Wheat option, just use a whole wheat flour instead of the all-purpose white flour.
Serve with your favorite tacos or make a wrap for lunch. You can even use these for eggs in the morning or fill with your favorite ingredients to make a dessert. The possibilities are endless!
