Dee’s Homemade Taco Sauce
Ingredients
1 Can (14.5 oz), Fire Roasted Tomatoes
1/3 Cup, Water
2 Tablespoons, White Distilled Vinegar
1 Teaspoon, Onion Powder
1 Teaspoon, Garlic Powder
1 1/2 Teaspoons, Cumin
1/2 Teaspoon, Chili Powder
1/2 Teaspoon, Paprika
1/8 Teaspoon, Cayenne (can you 1/2 teaspoon if you like it hotter)
S&P, to taste
1/3 Cup, Chicken Broth
Instructions
I chopped the can of tomatoes in my mini processor with the water first. Then place in a small pot on the stove. Add seasonings and vinegar and stir well. Turn stove on to a medium heat. Once it starts to boil turn heat to low and simmer for about 20 minutes. Stir the sauce occasionally.
After about 20 minutes let the sauce cool slightly. Add to a processor or blender and add the broth (add broth a little bit at a time) and mix until it is a nice smooth consistency. You can add less liquid if you like it to be thicker.
If you want a touch of some sweetness you can add a touch of honey, about 1 teaspoon, to the sauce while blending it. I drizzled a little olive oil to my sauce while in blender. Taste and add more S&P if it needs it.
Store in an airtight container like a mason jar with a lid or in a Tupperware container if using right away. You can store the taco sauce in the fridge for later use. If you need a bigger batch of this for your recipes just double the ingredients.
You can also freeze batches of your taco sauce for later use. Be sure to label your container so you know what it is and add a date.
You can use this sauce in your tacos, enchiladas or any of your favorites recipes that call for enchilada or taco sauce.
Mangia! Enjoy!
