Cheese Steak Stromboli
Ingredients
1 lb., Beef Top Round Steak-Chipped, cut into strips
1 Large, White Onion, sliced
1, Red Pepper, sliced into strips
Dash, Worcestershire
1-2 Cups, Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
¼ Cup, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, grated
S&P
¼ Cup Cottage Cheese
¼ Cup, Ricotta Cheese
1 Teaspoon, Garlic, minced
Olive Oil
1 Teaspoon, parsley
1 Teaspoon, Italian Seasoning
1 Egg
Pizza Dough, store bought or homemade
Instructions
Heat oven to 400 degrees.
On stove, over medium-high heat sauté your peppers and onion in 1 Tablespoon of olive oil. Cook for about 5 minutes and add S&P. Continue cooking until they start to become tender; about another 5 minutes or so. Remove from heat, return pan to stove and add your beef. Cook for about 3 minutes and add Worcestershire and cook meat only until it isn’t pink any longer. Remove from heat.
In a small chopper mix your Cottage cheese and ricotta cheese along with garlic, parsley and Italian seasoning.
On a floured surface, roll out pizza dough in a rectangular shape. Place the dough onto a baking sheet that is sprayed with cooking spray.
Spread your ricotta cheese mix onto the dough leaving approx. an inch of crust around. Top with peppers/onions, then spread the meat on top, then a layer of mozzarella cheese and sprinkle on your Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese. Brush the end of dough with egg wash (the part of the dough you will end with). Starting on the opposite end (long end without egg wash) start to roll your dough to the other end. Pinch the ends all around; you’ll want to make sure you seal it really good otherwise the filling will fall out while baking. Brush the dough with egg wash. Bake until nice and golden brown, approx 20 minutes or so (depending on how big your Stromboli is).
Remove from oven, slice and service with a side of your favorite sauce.
Mangia! Enjoy!
Tips
You can fill your Stromboli with whatever ingredients you like. You can use hot or sweet peppers; I used sweet red peppers in this recipe. But there are so many types of peppers you can choose from.
Be sure to seal the dough really well otherwise you’ll have a big Stromboli mess in your oven!
Cheese: you can skip the Ricotta cheese/Cottage Cheese filling if you want to. I thought it was a nice, creamy addition to this recipe. It has a very mild flavor and adding the garlic to it was really tasty.
